The Program
Our emphasis is on free choice and creative play. Through adult guidance and a variety of "hands on" experiences, children gain self-confidence and celebrate learning. They develop new social skills, and learn to be part of a group through music, story time, organized games and interactive play.
The Classes
Classes for children two to pre-kindergarten are all offered in the morning from 9:15 to 11:45 a.m. Children attend school two to four mornings a week based on their age.
- Two-year-olds attend two days per week
- Three-year-olds attend three days per week
- Four-year-olds attend four days per week
For specific information on class schedules please contact the school.
Enrichment
Throughout the year, the school sponsors a number of interesting enrichment programs which are built into the curriculum and integrate music, science and art into daily activities. These special programs are age appropriate and are designed to encourage children to explore, imagine and create.
- New England Aquarium brings a live tide pool exhibit.
- Fire fighters and Police officers teach about safety.
- Science and nature programs capture the children's inherent interest in their world.
- Dance, music and creative movement educators stimulate learning through rhythmic expression.
- Multicultural presentations explore diversity.
Stay and Play
The school offers an optional after-school program from October until May. The program begins directly after the close of school and runs through early afternoon. It is offered to children who are at least 33 months of age. Children bring a lunch to school on Stay and Play days. Sign-up for the program is on a semester basis, then on a daily first-come, first-served basis until the program is at maximum enrollment. Stay and Play is an excellent learning opportunity for children who are ready for more social interaction. Children bring lunch to school on Stay and Play days, and Spanish language instruction is offered one day a week.
Special Events
Each year the school holds a number of special events designed to involve families. As the opening of school approaches, teachers make home visits to ease the transition to school. Parents are invited to the "Opening Event" where they hear about plans for the school year from the teachers and have the opportunity to meet other parents. Informal parent coffees and individual parent-teacher conferences are held during the year to give parents and teachers a chance to discuss each child's progress. The school year ends with the annual family picnic. Throughout the school year, two unique and enjoyable fundraisers are held. They are open to the Sudbury and surrounding communities.
- Family concert - a full live band performing irresistibly fun music for kids.
- Puppet Fun Day - featuring a professional marionette company.
